As I was uploading my training and reviewing the work I have done over the recent weeks, I noticed that my run and bike volume looked pretty respectable. Not the 2007-2009 kind of respectable, but considering the injury in 2010 and it was pretty reading. I have gotten back to a pre-injury training level (bike power is better than it was at my injury point, and running is about 90%). My run volume for the week was the highest I have had since the last week of March in 2010, and the bike volume was the highest since the middle of July 2010 (when I was still of the mind that my injury was mild).

The notable thing here is not the volume numbers or the power/speed/TSS, etc., but rather just how long it took to really recover from a fractured bone injury in the knee joint. I would have never in my mind think that an injury that was not involving a major crash or very acute type would take over 2 years to recover from. Injuries are usually not severe, thankfully, but we can all learn to respect them and train smart to avoid causing some of the most stubborn types (stress fractures, plantar issues, ITB problems). For me, my 2 plus year odyssey to get back to a reasonable level is one of wasting months trying to find the problem, then coming on too fast and too strong when I was nearly healed, which pushed out the time frame.

The body is an amazing creation, and it is very resilient, but it is also in need of care and patience. Patience has never been my best quality.
